Some Thoughts On "The Golden Compass"
In All Things [1]
The America review of the controversial movie "The Golden Compass" [3] is now out, and can be found here [4]. The review focuses both on Phillip Pullman’s novels and on the film, which opened strongly but suffered an enormous drop in per-screen viewers after its first week. Was its failure due to a backlash against the anti-religious elements in the film (including protests by the Catholic League and several bishops), or due simply to bad buzz about the quality of the movie? Jim Keane, S.J.
